“GOALS” of the SPORE Program:

  1. Fund the best science and translate results to human cancer. SPOREs study the underlying mechanisms of cancer and apply the knowledge to specific cancers.

  2. SPOREs create a culture of “collaboration” between basic science investigators, clinicians, and patient advocates both within an institution and with other institutions. SPORE investigators can cover more bases to get results more quickly. They can investigate more than one kind of cancer to maximize their efforts as well as the return on the public's tax dollars.

  3. Patient advocates are utilized in the SPORE programs to ensure that the science moves quickly to assist the basic scientists and clinicians then to the patients, and to educate the public.
