  • Outcomes Research Journal Club: The journal club takes place the last Monday of each month from 12:00-1:00 in Medical Towers 634.  Lunch is provided. The focus of this journal club is outcomes research and methods related literature. The presenter prepares 4-5 outline slides on background, methods and results of the paper in order to facilitate the discussion.  The assumption is that participants have not read the article. The journal club will not be limited to the presentation of an article: the presenter will be at liberty to decide what to do as long as it relates to outcomes research. For example: presentation of a synthesis of readings in some area of interest to outcomes research; an overview of evidence presented at a scientific meeting; or a methodology related topic important to the field. For the journal club calendar of upcoming and past presentations go to http://www.dopm.uab.edu/coere/journalclub.html or click on the highlighted link above. For more information contact Maria Pisu, PhD, at mpisu@dopm.uab.edu
  • "Perspectives in Outcomes Research" Seminar Series:This seminar series is sponsored by the COERE and the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Division of Continuing Medical Education. The series is designed to highlight the multidisciplinary nature of outcomes research as applied by researchers who are nationally recognized experts in their field. For a schedule of upcoming seminars go to http://www.dopm.uab.edu/coere/Seminar.html  or click on the highlighted link above.
  • Outcomes Research Discussion Groups:  The purpose of the COERE Outcomes Research Discussion Groups is to provide an informal forum for faculty to present preliminary research proposal ideas, early research in progress, and developing or available data sets. COERE Directors and other faculty interested in outcomes and effectiveness research regularly participate. The format is intended to provide constructive feedback, stimulate peer discussion, and generate ideas for multidisciplinary collaboration. Discussion groups are regularly convened on the second Friday of every month from 1:15-2:30 p.m.* If you are interested in presenting at one of our Discussion Groups, please contact Suzanne Baker at sbaker@uab.edu to discuss your ideas. For a table of previous and upcoming discussion group topics click on the highlighted link above.
  • Economic Evaluation and Modeling Unit (EEMU) Discussion Groups: The purpose of the EEMU Discussion Groups is to bring together researchers who are involved in (or interested in) the conduct of cost-effectiveness analysis and decision analytic modeling in health outcomes research. Researchers present and discuss their economic or decision-analytic models for peer review and "nuts and bolts" discussion. EEMU Discussion Groups meet on a per request basis. If you are interested in accessing this forum please email coere@uab.edu
  • Internal Review of Grant Applications for UAB Faculty:  The COERE will arrange for internal review of outcomes research proposals for member faculty. COERE Directors and faculty have considerable experience participating on grant review panels and study sections for the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, NIH, CDC, and other federal health funding agencies. The purpose of this process is to make outcomes research proposals emanating from UAB more competitive.
  • Technical Support for UAB Faculty:  Through the expertise of COERE Faculty Leadership and the shared facilities developed and mentoring by the COERE Unit faculty and staff, the COERE provides mentoring assistance to faculty in health services research, career development and in the conduct and implementation of outcomes research.
  • Other Education and Outreach:  In addition to the activities listed above, the COERE is developing several other mechanisms for promoting outcomes research both on and off campus:
    • Web Site
    • CE Institute on Assessing Outcomes in Health Care
    • Non-Degree Certificate Program in Outcomes and Effectiveness Research (Under Development)
    • Collaborations with Graduate and Postdoctoral Training and Degree Programs
    • Collaborations with other UAB Research Centers
