Benefits of Membership
As the COERE grows and develops, so will the benefits of membership. Members will be informed of research opportunities and programs as they develop. Assistance with research design, application of outcomes research methodologies, selection or determination of outcomes assessment measures, and data analysis is currently available through the COERE's four research Units. The COERE is available to formally collaborate on grant proposals that focus on outcomes research. COERE leadership will also advise and provide technical assistance to researchers that wish to build in outcomes research questions and measures to their grant proposals or funded research.

Examples of COERE programs and activities are:

COERE Perspectives in Outcomes Research Seminar Series

This seminar series highlights the multidisciplinary nature of outcomes research as applied by local and national researchers who are considered experts in their field.

When and Where:  Perspectives seminars are usually held once a quarter on Mondays from 12:00 noon –1:00 p.m. in UAB’s West Pavilion Boardroom, 615 South 18th Street, unless otherwise announced. For a schedule of upcoming seminars please see our web site at http://www.dopm.uab.edu/coere/Seminar.html

COERE Outcomes Research Discussion Groups

The purpose of the COERE Outcomes Research Discussion Groups is to provide an informal forum for faculty to present their preliminary research proposal ideas, early research in progress, and developing data sets to COERE Directors and other faculty interested in outcomes and effectiveness research. The format is intended to provide constructive feedback, stimulate peer discussion, and generate ideas for multidisciplinary collaboration.

Date and Time:  Discussion groups are regularly convened on the second Friday of every month from 1:15-2:30 p.m. unless otherwise announced.  For a table of previous and upcoming discussion group topics go to http://www.dopm.uab.edu/coere/DISGRPS.html

Economic Evaluation and Modeling Unit Discussion Groups

The purpose of these discussion groups is to bring together researchers who are involved in (or interested in) the conduct of cost-effectiveness analysis and decision analytic modeling as applied to health outcomes research. Researchers present and discuss their economic or decision-analytic models for peer review and "nuts and bolts" discussion.

Date and Time:  The EEMU Discussion Groups meet on a per request basis. If you are interested in accessing this forum please contact coere@uab.edu

COERE Outcomes Research Journal Club

The focus of this journal club is outcomes research and methods related literature. The presenter prepares 4-5 outline slides on background, methods and results of the paper in order to facilitate the discussion.  The assumption is that participants have not read the article. The journal club will not be limited to the presentation of an article: the presenter will be at liberty to decide what to do as long as it relates to outcomes research. For example: presentation of a synthesis of readings in some area of interest to outcomes research; an overview of evidence presented at a scientific meeting; or a methodology related topic important to the field.

Date and Time: The journal club takes place the last Monday of each month from 12:00-1:00 in Medical Towers 634.  Lunch is provided.

COERE Web Page: www.uab.edu/coere

The COERE Web site currently houses information about the COERE's mission, research facilities and expertise, programs and projects and faculty leadership. The site also includes announcements about seminars and other activities of interest; a full directory of COERE membership; and a bibliography of COERE faculty leadership’s publications. Expansions to the site are ongoing, so please check us out periodically for additions and updates. To check us out go to http://www.dopm.uab.edu/coere/index.html

Internal Review of Outcomes Research Proposals

By special request, the COERE will arrange for internal review of outcomes research proposals for member faculty. COERE leadership has considerable experience participating on grant review panels and study sections for the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, NIH, CDC, and other federal health funding agencies. The purpose of this process is to make outcomes research proposals emanating from UAB more competitive.
