 Dr. Kiefe's work with the ABC method of benchmarking provider performance has also been disseminated in the US Public Health Foundation's Healthy People 2010 Toolkit (http://www.healthypeople.gov/state/toolkit/) in the section on "Obtaining Baseline Measures, Setting Targets, and Measuring Progress."  This is an online publication developed for states to assist them in achieving Healthy People 2010 goals and objectives.  The ABC method has been adopted by several Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services state Quality Improvement Organizations for use in their Health Care Quality Improvement Projects, and the method was cited as a tool in the IOM publication "Enhancing Data Systems to Improve the Quality of Cancer Care."  An online copy of the ABC users Manual is available at http://main.uab.edu/show.asp?durki=11311

COERE Senior Scientist gets international recognition...

COERE Senior Scientist Joshua Klapow, PhD, was recently added to the World Health Organization (WHO) Observatory of Health Care for Chronic Conditions'  "Network of Innovators."  This is an invitation only network of experts that are involved in improving health care for chronic conditions.

Dr. Klapow directs the COERE's Health Outcomes Assessment Unit and is the recipient of a coveted 5-year Career Development Award from the NIH/NIA.

  • New Grants and other Key Announcements

COERE gets T32 to train new researchers in outcomes and health services research with a focus on translating evidence into practice.

COERE, in partnership with the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy, was recently awarded a 5-Year National Research Service Award Institutional Research Training Grant (T32) from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.  This award funds postdoctoral research training in outcomes and health services research. Predoctoral training is expected to be phased in by Year 2.
