ENDOWis a multicenter, collaborative project funded by the Health Promotion Disease Prevention Research Centers Program, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, and the Office of Women's Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Women's Health Initiative Community Prevention Studies Program, National Institutes of Health. The project has the following aims:
  • to examine the factors that influence women's choices and how women approach decisions regarding hysterectomy, oophorectomy and postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT), with special emphasis on exploring the potential roles of cultural identity and ethnicity. 
  • to develop materials and dissemination strategies to enhance women's decision-making regarding hysterectomy, oophorectomy and HRT. 
  • to evaluate developed interventions in communities. 
Methodology:
The project is a 5-year multicenter study to be conducted in three phases: 
Phase I - to examine with qualitative and quantitative data the factors that influence women’s choices and how women approach decisions regarding hysterectomy, oophorectomy and postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT), with special emphasis on exploring the potential roles of cultural identity and ethnicity.
Phase II - to use the information from Phase I in development of interventions to enhance women’s decision-making regarding hysterectomy, oophorectomy and HRT, and to develop dissemination strategies for these materials. 
Phase III - to evaluate intervention materials and dissemination strategies.
