The Division of Preventive Medicine is a research-oriented division of the UAB Department of Medicine. We contribute to medicine and public health through research, teaching and dissemination of knowledge, leading to improved health outcomes. The development and training of new investigators is central to our mission.
Through our research, we contribute to knowledge of medical and health systems, behavioral aspects of health and illness, epidemiology, prevention, control, and disease outcomes. Special concern with health disparities and a desire to promote women's health guide many of our activities.
We aspire to be one of the leading centers for the acquisition and translation of the knowledge necessary to improve the health of populations and individuals. We wish to be on the forefront of teaching in our areas of scientific expertise and to model how science can serve the community. We seek to deepen the understanding of the topics we study as well as develop new areas of expertise.
