Building Healthy Communities: Fountain Heights (BHC-Alabama Power)
The purpose of the initiative is to increase awareness of and participation in disease-prevention and wellness activities in the community of Fountain Heights by organizing community-specific prevention and wellness days and developing community-based coalitions. The objectives are: 1) to devise and employ a strategy for low-income populations by partnering with local community and political leaders, faith-based institutions, schools, businesses, and community members; 2) to identify key leaders representing the above organizations and form a Healthy Communities Coalition in Fountain Heights; 3) to assist the established coalition in identifying their community’s health needs and priorities; 4) to develop a community-driven disease-prevention and wellness activities plan based on identified needs; 5) to organize disease-prevention and wellness days and evaluate outcome; 6) to expand to other Jefferson County communities based on the successes and lessons learned in the two pilot neighborhoods (Norwood and Fountain Heights).
